On Monday, August 11, State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster delivered a welcoming address to the second annual New Teacher Academy in Baraboo. Organized by the Baraboo School District, the academy welcomed nearly 100 educators from across Wisconsin, representing 30 educational institutions, gathered on the UW-Baraboo/Sauk County campus for presentations on topics of classroom management and instruction.

On Tuesday, August 12, State Superintendent Burmaster was in Wausau for a public forum of the Wisconsin Task Force for Arts and Creativity in Education, which she co-chairs with Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton. More about the task force can be seen in a video on-line.

On Friday, August 15, Burmaster met with State Senator Bob Jauch, State Representative Gary Sherman, members of the media, and the State Superintendent's Rural Advisory Council at La Pointe Elementary School on Madeline Island. The events led to several news stories about sparsity aid and other new funding aimed at rural school districts--budget measures developed by Burmaster and her Rural Advisory Council, to address the unique challenges of rural education. A photo gallery and a news release related to the event are available.
