From Saturday, July 26, through Tuesday, July 29, State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster participated, as Immediate Past President, in the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Summer Institute. The focus of this year's institute is to help state education agencies increase their capacity to assure the provision of high quality teaching and learning for each and every child.

On Sunday, August 3, State Superintendent Burmaster delivered congratulatory remarks at a celebration of the career and retirement of library leader Paul Nelson in Middleton. In addition to directing the Middleton Public Library and twice winning the Wisconsin Library Association (WLA) Librarian of the Year Award, Nelson led WLA legislative efforts for many years. State Senator Jon Erpenbach was also present.

On Tuesday, August 5, Burmaster participated in a meeting of the Wisconsin Technical College System Board, on which she sits.

Later that day, State Superintendent Burmaster presented an honorary plaque to Dee Runaas, who has earned a national reputation as coordinator of the State Bar of Wisconsin's Law-related Education Committee. (Runaas will be leading middle and high school programs at the Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago.)
