Elizabeth Burmaster |
1. On the RoadOn Tuesday, November 11, State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster addressed students in a Veterans Day ceremony at James Williams Middle School in Rhinelander. From Thursday, November 13, through Saturday, November 15, Burmaster participated in Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) events in Austin, Texas: a Board of Directors meeting, the Annual Policy Forum, and a meeting of the group's Early Childhood Task Force. Much of the Annual Policy Forum focused on ways to influence and advise the new presidential administration on PK-12 education matters. Burmaster has issued an editorial in recognition of American Education Week (November 16-22). Some excerpts: "American creativity and entrepreneurship springs from the greatness of our diversity....Educational success for this generation of students means they must be able to think critically, make decisions, work cooperatively, analyze data, synthesize information, and solve complex problems. Learning these 21st century skills must occur at every grade level and through every subject.... We want our children to learn their academic subjects by applying knowledge to today's real-world challenges." ![]()
