Bilingual/ESL Program


Purpose: To assist school districts serving English language learners (ELLs)/limited-English proficient (LEP) students so they become proficient in English while achieving academically.

From the March 2005 Census of LEP Students:
  • Over 39,000 identified ELLs in grade Pre-K through 12.
  • 85 home languages other than English represented.
  • Approximately 58% are Spanish and 29% are Hmong.
