Reading Curriculum

School districts in Wisconsin are required to develop, implement, and monitor curriculum plans for 12 subject areas including reading. Each school board shall develop, adopt, and implement a written curriculum plan. Each sequential curriculum plan should specify objectives, course sequence, course content, resources, allocation of instructional time to meet the curriculum, and a program evaluation method. Details of these requirements are contained in the PI 8.01(2)(k), Wis. Admin. Code.

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction literacy publications are:

  • A Guide to Curriculum Planning in Reading
  • A Guide to Curriculum Planning in English Language Arts
  • Classroom Activities in Speaking and Listening
  • Strategic Learning in the Content Areas.
  • Multicultural Literature for Children and Young Adults is an extensive annotated bibliography of outstanding books located in the Many Voices section of our publications.
